5th March 2021

Scottish Government Newly Self-Employed Hardship Fund (NSEHF) and Mobile & Home-Based Close Contact Services Funds

The GHR has been informed by the Healthcare Quality and Improvement Directorate, Health and Social Care, Scottish Government, of a package of financial support that is now open for applications as follows:

The Scottish Government’s Newly Self-Employed Hardship Fund (NSEHF) and Mobile & Home-Based Close Contact Services Funds – together worth £60m – opened for applications on Tuesday 16 February. Grants of up to £4k are available for applicants, including Complementary and Alternative Medicine services, who meet the qualifying criteria. All applications received before the closing date of 16 March 2021 will be processed and will receive funding if eligible.

Detailed guidance on who is eligible, how to apply, and what details you will need to provide is available on the FindBusinessSupport website, as well as information on other types of funding and support.

If you open the above FindBusinessSupport link, click on the blue ‘Browse all support services’ box and then scroll a fairly long way down on the second page to both the Mobile and Home Based Close Contact Services Fund and Newly Self-Employed Hardship Fund categories (and in each case click on the blue ‘Find out more’ boxes), you will be able to determine whether you qualify and, if so, how to apply.

N.B. There are in all 19 pages of eligible categories and so it may be worth your while scrolling through all the listed categories to ascertain whether any others may apply to you.

N.B.2 We have not been able to locate similar schemes for England, Wales or Northern Ireland and would therefore be pleased to hear from anyone who may have relevant information on this.

N.B.3 Notwithstanding the above, all UK Registrants are strongly advised to scrutinise the recent Budget set out by the Chancellor of the Exchequer in order to ascertain whether any of the financial assistance packages are relevant to you or not. See:

Possible Early Covid-19 Vaccination for Hypnotherapy Practitioners

We would bring Registrants’ attention to a Government publication, the ‘Green Book,’ on the subject of immunisation and we suggest you view the below link on the relevant section (Chapter 14A) at https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/961287/Greenbook_chapter_14a_v7_12Feb2021.pdf and scroll down to page 12. (See in particular under Frontline healthcare staff’).

We have attempted to determine whether GHR Practitioners can be considered eligible although, as usual, obtaining definitive advice in respect of self-employed hypnotherapists during the virus crisis has proved virtually impossible.

However, we have just been informed by a GHR practitioner to whom we provided this information in advance of this E-bulletin that she went ahead and booked an appointment and managed to get her first Covid vaccination on 4th March.

On attendance, they asked her what she was (to which she replied a counsellor and hypnotherapist), asked to see her GHR Registration Certificate (which she had taken with her) and then let her through.

Whereas we cannot guarantee that this would work for everyone, those of you who are not in the current group scheduled for their first vaccination (but who would nonetheless like to have it), might wish to try.

It may therefore be worth attempting to apply online, perhaps using your GHR Registration Number (which is on your Registration Document) and citing the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council as your accrediting body. To apply, visit:

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/

If that fails, try calling 119 (or perhaps your GP’s surgery) to see if they can help.

N.B. If you are successful in booking a slot please do remember to take your GHR Registration Document (and/or other relevant documentation showing your status as a hypnotherapist, psychotherapist, counsellor etc.) as it will most likely be requested.

The European Congress for Integrative Medicine (Previously Postponed) – New dates: 5-7 November 2021

The GHR & GHSC are working with the European Congress for Integrative Medicine (ECIM) to promote its essential task in bringing together medical practitioners, healthcare professionals, scientists, researchers, therapists and health politicians from around the world.

The Congress has been taking place at various European cities since 2008 and at this forthcoming event the ECIM Committee of experts is including GHR Practitioners, GHSC Affiliated Training Providers and Students in training within an invitation to submit abstracts for consideration for presentation at Europe’s cutting-edge integrative medicine event to be held for the first time in the UK. Accordingly, the ECIM state the following:

“Although as a result of the continued COVID-19 pandemic, this 13th European Congress has had to be postponed from its previous publicised date until this coming November, the decision to move the dates of the congress comes with the full support of the congress presidents. The move has also been received well by committee members, supporting organisations and exhibitors with many thinking that the congress could be one of the first events in the international calendar where the global community will be able to come together in-person.

Indeed, the congress organisers have seen a great deal of enthusiasm for the event with more than 370 abstracts received to date, plus a number of international organisations who are looking to co-locate their workshops or meetings alongside.

There is also an increased sense of confidence from many clinical professionals and research scientists who recognise, perhaps now more than ever, the importance of promoting an integrative approach to healthcare. With this in mind, the organisers are confident that the congress will be even bigger and better than initially anticipated.

This long-awaited congress will enable like-minded individuals to come together to celebrate the contribution that integrative medicine has on healthcare and to rigorously discuss the strong evidence and research that is helping to take this movement forward.

We hope that you will reserve the date in your diary and very much look forward to welcoming you in London in November 2021.”

To register, visit: https://www.ecimcongress.com/register

To view / submit abstract topics, visit: https://www.ecimcongress.com/submit_abstract  (Deadline; 2nd April 2021).

N.B. All successful abstracts submitted in the specified format (outlined on the submission form), will be published in the European Journal of Integrative Medicine. (See https://www.sciencedirect.com/journal/european-journal-of-integrative-medicine).
